There will be times where you will put a smile on your face when all you want to do is cry. You will face all of these moments, constantly, and each time they will make you second-guess yourself. The fact of the matter is, these students will love each of these versions of you - either in the moment, or much later down the road. Showing you care comes in many forms. Try to remember that it is the same for your students. So, no matter how hard your day has been, or how many difficult decisions you ha d to make, remember that you are loved. Iraq accused Kuwait of breaking agreements that limit oil production in the Middle East. According to Saddam Hussein, this brought down world oil prices severely and caused financial loss of billions of dollars in Iraq's annual revenue. Saddam Hussein had the nearly hopeless task of justifying the invasion. Iraqi borders were not created until World War 1. There was also a further and more obvious blunder in a bid to justify this illegal invasion. Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, had namely recognized Kuwaiti independence in 1963. Hussein claimed that Kuwait had illegally pumped oil from the Iraqi oil field otherwise conspired to reduce Iraq's essential oil income. C ritics of President Bush continued to maintain that he was taking advantage of the issue of energy supplies in order to manipulate the U. S. public opinion in favor of war. After talking with U. S. Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney in early August 1990, Saudi Arabia invited American troops onto Saudi soil. He had seen Kuwait's destiny; therefore, he wanted protection. It was also the interest of the USA to stop any further advantage of the Iraqi army. The deployment was called ?Operation Desert Shield? These troops were armed with light, defensive weapons. On November 8, 1990 President Bush announced a military buildup to provide an offensive option, ?Operation Desert Storm,? to force Iraq out of Kuwait. The preparation of the operation took two and a half months and it involved a massive air- and sea lift. Finally, in January 1991, Congress voted to support Security Council resolution 660. It authorized using ?all necessary means? if Iraq did not withdraw from Kuwait by January 15. Shrugging off this final warning, Saddam Hussein resolutely maintained the occupation of Kuwait. The United States created an International committee to confront Iraq. Countries that were included in this committee were Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Honduras, Italy, Kuwait, Morocco, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Niger, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Spain, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. But when this relationship broke all laws and all foundations of the Indian society, a beautiful and tragic new world opened in front of me. Something that no one outside their culture will ever really understand, something so different from our own standards and morals. I arrived here a few days ago with my mind set on the story of the young girl who drowned in the river here in Ayemenem. When living amongst the Indians I realized how different their lives were compared to ours. It was fascinating to just watch them, watch the children play or the old man playing the tabla. Sitting there wondering about the death of the child â€Å" not yet knowing how closely related it was to the story that could be my breakthrough. I could clearly see that the people of Ayemenem was upset about something â€Å" slowly I realized that it wasnâ„ ¢t about the story I had thought it was. The caste system in India is probably well known to everyone. But do we really understand it at the individual and at the personal level Yes, the story I discovered here in Ayemenem is a love story. But it is so much more interesting than that. What happens when a Paravan has a love affair with a higher-class woman The Paravan was accused of molesting the women. He was blamed and almost beaten to death. And all this just because of whom he was â€Å" an Untouchable. In the caste system, the Paravans are seen as polluted, they are not worthy to touch anything that the touchables touched. The Paravans could not change their position in the society â€Å" they were who they were born to be. It is said that being a Paravan was the punishment for having been bad in a former life. The Paravan, whose name was Velutha, was also held responsible for the murder of the British girl, which turned out to be completely wrong when I investigated the matter. When further in, in my investigation I started hearing rumors that said that the women had run into the Police station claiming that the Paravan was innocent. That it had been a love affair. I actually believe the women since why would she claim this if it wasnâ„ ¢t true, what could she have gained on it Nothing! The womanâ„ ¢s family took this whole incident very seriously. Especially the womanâ„ ¢s aunt. She went, by herself, to the police to tell them of how a Paravan was abusing their niece. She had gotten this information from the Paravans dad the police report said. Obviously the Paravans are well aware of their position in India since he was ready to tell on his own son. Though, my reliable sources here in Ayemenem tell me that the aunt knew about the love affair and locked the women in her room to prevent them from meeting. The secret and forbidden, intersexual relationship between this man and woman caused a big stir in the Ayemenem community. We can never really understand the thoughts and opinions of the people living here â€Å" both touchables and untouchables. I canâ„ ¢t understand why Velutha had this tragic destiny only because he was a Paravan. Still people, such as the police, truly believe that it was Velutha who had caused this mess. And they clearly never listened to the woman when she confessed of having an affair with an Untouchable. Now I have been living in Kerala for just about a month â€Å" I couldnâ„ ¢t leave without learning more about the culture. It is very clear to me now that cultural clashes in Ayemenem can cause minor conflicts or major trouble and violence â€Å" such as the night when Velutha was brutally beaten. I picked this poem because I really like it and I find the imagery intriguing, but I knew I was not understanding all of what Donne was saying in the poem. I could tell that if I understood these particular lines, the meaning of the poem would be richer and more meaningful. I have achieved my goal, and think I have a better grasp on what Donne was getting at than I did before. â€Å"Batter my heart† is one of Donne’s religious sonnets with 14 lines. His rhyme scheme is ABBA ABBA CDCD EE, which is a bit different than what I am used to seeing in an English style sonnet. Donne seems to put his turns earlier in his sonnets, as well, more like a Petrarchan sonnet. English sonnets tend to put their turns before the couplet, whereas Petrarchan†¦show more content†¦The speaker uses the word â€Å"breathe† next. ‘Breath’ in the Christian tradition is how God gave life to man in Genesis, but though the word evokes that meaning, I do not know if that image is supposed to be the one we stick with. A particular meaning that might be interesting to consider that the OED catalogues is ‘to pant, to desire after,’ which would have been a contemporary meaning to Donne. It keeps with the gentleness of this series of words, but seems to show God’s motivations for pursuing the speaker, as well. â€Å"Shine† and â€Å"seek to mend† show that God is trying to be gentle with the speaker. It is this very gentleness that the speaker is critiquing because it has not worked. In lines 3-4, the sentence continues, â€Å"[t]hat I may rise and stand, o’erthrow me, and bend / Your force, to break, blow, burn and make me new.† First, the speaker juxtaposes â€Å"rise and stand† against â€Å"o’erthrow me, and bend.† If the speaker is to stand, presumably against sin, then he must be overthrown, and God must bend His force against the speaker. The construction of the list in line 4 exactly reflects the previous list in line 2.
